No filters. No chemicals.
One pass.
How it works
Untreated water
The ballast pump supplies untreated water to the inlet of the PV reactor at a pressure of 3 barA.
Pressure Vacuum Reactor
Water enters the PV reactor where an instantaneous pressure reduction combined with shear forces decompresses and destroys all the larger oganisms.
UV chamber
A second treatment barrier – the UV chamber – eliminates any remaining small organisms such as algae and bacteria.
To the ballast tank
The treated ballast water is then distributed to the ballast tanks.
Differentiated Technology
KBAL® – Knutsen Ballast Water Treatment Technology
Knutsen Ballast Water Treatment Technology, KBAL, is the first BWTS of its type that is approved by IMO and USCG according to the revised G8 standard that does not use filters or chemicals.
KBAL is also the first UV Ballast water treatment system that is approved for One-Pass treatment.
KBAL® – Technology
The KBAL Treatment Technology is based around our patented PV Reactor, allowing the KBAL system to operate without a filter system. The KBAL system has been successfully installed and operated on numerous vessels.
